PHOEBE PHILO LEAVES CHLOE!!!!!!!!

CHLOE confirmed this morning that Phoebe Philo has resigned as creative director of the label. "I am grateful to the House of Chloe for giving me the opportunity to develop as a designer and to serve as its creative director for the past four years," said Philo, who joined the house in 1997 with Stella McCartney before taking over the top job in 2001. "Chloe is a beautiful house with a great history, and I am proud to have worked alongside the wonderfully talented people there. My decision to resign is for personal reasons, including especially to spend more time with my new baby in the coming months. I want to thank the House of Chloe, the Richemont Group and of course Ralph Toledano for their support and their understanding of my decision. These past years have been exciting for all of us, and I wish the company all the best success in the future." Chairman and ceo of Chloe, Ralph Toledano, added, "We thank Phoebe for her contribution. We respect her choice to focus on her family at this point in her life, and wish her all the best." The house design team, made up of Sara Jowett, Natasha Lee, Valeska Duetsch, Adrian Appiolaza and Yvan Mispelaere, is expected to put together the forthcoming autumn/winter 2006-7 show – due in March – just as they did for this winter's collection while Philo was on maternity leave. The spotlight is now on Roland Mouret, who walked out of his London-based company two months ago, and is widely expected to step into Philo's shoes. (NEW YORK) Rather than let the rumor mill draw on at length, Chloé confirmed what many industry insiders had been suspecting for several months now: Phoebe Philo has resigned from the company.

This confirms a report in The Daily last month, when Philo and her friends, in New York for a performance, had openly admitted that she’d made up her mind and intended to leave the fashion house.

In an official statement released today, the 31 year-old Philo said, “I am grateful to the house of Chloé for giving me the opportunity to develop as a designer and to serve as its creative director for the past four years. Chloé is a beautiful house with a great history, and I am proud to have worked alongside the wonderfully talented people there.”

Unlike many less-than-ideal designer departures in the past at other houses, Philo’s departure is amicable and comes at a time when her core design team is well-established and has a clear vision for the brand. Philo, in her departure statement, confirms what many have been citing all along.

“My decision to resign is for personal reasons,” she said, “including especially to spend more time with my new baby in the coming months.”

It is expected that Philo’s current design team, a five-member group comprised of Natasha Lee, Valeska Duetsch, Sara Jowett, Adrian Appiolaza, and Yvan Mispelaere, will create the fall collection. This was the same critically acclaimed team that took a bow on the Chloé runway last March after Philo went on maternity leave. At that show, she sat in the front row and applauded her design team’s efforts. When asked what she made of sitting in the front row at her own show, Philo, at the time, replied, “I think it’s great. In fact, I should do it more often.”

Despite Philo’s intention to spend more time with her family, it’s possible that the often-reclusive and very press-shy designer could develop her own capsule collection in the future. “It’d be very small, very intimate,” said one industry source. “As media-shy as she is, she will eventually miss the attention.”

No replacement for Philo is expected in the short term. However, Roland Mouret’s name has been bandied about as a strong candidate.

Ralph Toledano, chairman and CEO of Chloé, was not available for comment, but did issue a statement.

“We thank Phoebe for her contribution to the continuing growth of the company. We respect her choice to focus on her family at this point in her life, and wish her all the best. Our design team has successfully worked independently on previous collections and I totally trust their creative ability to produce the upcoming Chloé collection.”

In April 2001, Philo, a graduate of Central St. Martins, was appointed the successor to then Chloé creative director Stella McCartney, after McCartney announced she was leaving to start her own line that would be backed by Gucci Group. JIM SHI

well, i haven't blogged for a while. today was a good day, minus all the drama that i have with some bitchy girls at school.

after library volunteer, i went to visit paola at coldstone. she hooked it up with a BIG sample of coffee ice cream. after, grabbing starbucks and arriving home with the lastest Harper's Bazaar was just a bliss.

yet, it all comes down to my fucking parents who said no to nyc unless i get the internship again? julia and sharon, we're going to have a bit of a problem. if i don't go to nyc before august 7th, i'm going to scream. the Chanel Costume Gala is officially opening today and closing up aug 7. but yes, a lot of convincing and begging is going to happen in the next month/2.
